Call to Worship

Psalm 68:1-10 & 32-35

May God arise, may his enemies be scattered;
    may his foes flee before him.
May you blow them away like smoke—
    as wax melts before the fire,
    may the wicked perish before God.
But may the righteous be glad
    and rejoice before God;
    may they be happy and joyful.

Sing to God, sing in praise of his name,
    extol him who rides on the clouds;
    rejoice before him—his name is the Lord.
A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows,
    is God in his holy dwelling.
God sets the lonely in families,
    he leads out the prisoners with singing;
    but the rebellious live in a sun-scorched land.

then you, God, went out before your people,
    when you marched through the wilderness,
the earth shook, the heavens poured down rain,
    before God, the One of Sinai,
    before God, the God of Israel.
You gave abundant showers, O God;
    you refreshed your weary inheritance.
Your people settled in it,
    and from your bounty, God, you provided for the poor.

...

Sing to God, you kingdoms of the earth,
    sing praise to the Lord,
to him who rides across the highest heavens, the ancient heavens,
    who thunders with mighty voice.
Proclaim the power of God,
    whose majesty is over Israel,
    whose power is in the heavens.
You, God, are awesome in your sanctuary;
    the God of Israel gives power and strength to his people.

Praise be to God!

Leader: This is the day that the Lord has made.

All: We will Rejoice and be glad in it.

Leader: Come, Let us worship.

Song of Praise

Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.

Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts,

as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation,

But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power,

and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Scripture Reading

John 17:1-11

After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed:

“Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you.

For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.  And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.

Jesus Prays for His Disciples

“I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word. Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me. I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours. All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them. I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one as we are one.

Pause

Discuss with your family, or ponder to yourself...

We have focused on prayer in this first portion of the service, how has all of the changes in your life in recent months effected your prayer life?

What does it mean to worship when you can't GO to the church building?

A Prayer for Peace

?

Holy God,

When I feel crushed by my own worries,

Lift my mind and help me to see the truth.

When fear grips me tight and I feel I cannot move,

Free my heart and help me to take things one step at a time.

When I can’t express the turmoil inside,

Calm me with Your quiet words of love.

I choose to trust in You, each day, each hour, each moment of my life.

I know deep down that I am in Your grace, forgiven, restored by Your sacrifice, You have set me free.

-Amen.

Giving as an act of worship

As God has given so generously to us, let us respond in generous contribution to the work and ministry of God's Kingdom, manifest in part at Towne View Baptist Church.

As you give, meditate on all the ways that God has invited us into ministry with Him.

Part of our worship is the giving of our tithes and offerings to the ministry of the church. To give online now CLICK HERE.

What a Friend We Have in Jesus

Sermon

1Peter 3:13-22

Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.  To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.

Pause

Prayerfully Imagine, you are walking along a familiar path, (Where are you?) you notice someone walking the same path, as you get closer to them, you realize you know them, its Jesus (How do you greet Him? How does He respond?).

As you walk together you talk, (What do you talk about? What do you want to tell Him about this past week?

What does He want to share with you?)

Jesus points out some tension in your voice, (What do you need to confess, what have you been preoccupied with or anxious about this week? How does Jesus respond?)

You come to the end of the walk, Jesus thanks you for joining Him (How do you thank Him?) and says He hopes to see you again soon. (How do you say goodbye?

How does He?)

-Amen

Song of Response

Benediction

Each week for the past 26 years, we have closed our worship times by reading this ancient prayer together. Benediction is a Latin word meaning "Good Word." Christian worship services traditionally end with the clergy speaking a "Good Word" of blessing over the congregation. At Towne View, we affirm the priesthood of all believers and as a part of that, we read this benediction together, ending our time of community worship by speaking a good word of blessing over each other.
