Welcome and Instructions

As you scroll down this page, interact with each element, read along, sing the songs that you know & listen to the ones that you might not.  Pray, Praise, Participate! Take your time with it, and after the service, call a friend and reflect on the music, the words, the prayers, and the sermon. We love each other, we are here for each other, we are Towne View.

Call to Worship

Leader: The Lord is my shepherd

All: I shall not want.

Leader: He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:

All: He leadeth me beside still waters.

He restoreth my soul:

Leader: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake.

All: Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.

Leader: Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:

ALL: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

Leader: This is the day the Lord has made

People: We will rejoice and be glad in it

Leader: Come, let us worship!

Song of Praise

Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.

Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever.  Amen.

The comfort of Psalm 23 in the King James, the melody of Amazing Grace, the words of The Lord's Prayer: How do you receive these worship elements differently when enacted in a different context? How do they feel the same? What might you learn from the experience of the familiar worship in an unfamiliar setting?

Scripture Reading

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light  (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. This is why it is said:

“Wake up, sleeper,
    rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise,  making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.

THIS IS THE WORD OF THE LORD,

THANKS BE TO GOD!

Thankful Reflection

As you listen to this musical offering from The Smith Family and Pastor Jeremy, take time to pause, sit quietly and reflect on all of the ways that God has blessed you, your family, your church.

Prayer of Thanksgiving:

Lord, teach me to offer you a heart of thanksgiving and praise in all my daily experiences of life. Teach me to be joyful always, to pray continually and to give thanks in all my circumstances. I accept them as Your will for my life (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). I long to bring pleasure to Your heart daily. Break the power of the enemy in my life. Defeat Him through my sacrifice of praise. Change my outlook and attitude into one of joyful contentment with my present circumstances. I thank You for… [Name a difficult circumstance in your life presently and thank God for it.]

Jesus, I want to be like You who obeyed the Father without complaint. You embraced the chains of humanity when You walked this earth. Convict me whenever I complain or compare myself with others. Give me Your attitude of humility and thankful acceptance. I want to be like the Apostle Paul who learned contentment in every circumstance. I choose to continually offer You a sacrifice of praise, the fruit of lips that give praise to Your name (Hebrews 13:15). I long to bring a smile to Your face. Teach me the power of a thankful heart. I know that Your truth dwells in a thankful heart.

“I will give thanks to the LORD because of His righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High. O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens” (Psalm 7:17-18:1). In Jesus’ name, amen.

1) Where are we experiencing darkness these days?

2) Have you ever been dismissive of God's ability/desire to

work in someone else's life? Why do you think you were

    so quick to limit God?

3) In the world of Covid-19, where do you see God at work?

Benediction

Each week for the past 26 years, we have closed our worship times by reading this ancient prayer together. Benediction is a Latin word meaning "Good Word." Christian worship services traditionally end with the clergy speaking a "Good Word" of blessing over the congregation. At Towne View, we affirm the priesthood of all believers and as a part of that, we read this benediction together, ending our time of community worship by speaking a good word of blessing over each other.
