Welcome and Instructions

As you scroll down this page, interact with each element, read along, sing the songs that you know & listen to the ones that you might not.  Pray, Praise, Participate! Take your time with it, and after the service, call a friend and reflect on the music, the words, the prayers, and the sermon. We love each other, we are here for each other, we are Towne View.

Call to Worship

Psalm 66:8-20

Let everyone bless God and sing his praises; for he holds our lives in his hands, and he holds our feet to the path.  You have purified us with fire, O Lord, like silver in a crucible.  You captured us in your net and laid great burdens on our backs. You sent troops to ride across our broken bodies. We went through fire and flood. But in the end, you brought us into wealth and great abundance.

Now I have come to your Temple with burnt offerings to pay my vows.  For when I was in trouble, I promised you many offerings.  That is why I am bringing you these fat male goats, rams, and calves. The smoke of their sacrifice shall rise before you.

Come and hear, all of you who reverence the Lord, and I will tell you what he did for me: For I cried to him for help with praises ready on my tongue. He would not have listened if I had not confessed my sins. But he listened! He heard my prayer! He paid attention to it!

Blessed be God, who didn’t turn away when I was praying and didn’t refuse me his kindness and love.

Leader: This is the day that the Lord has made.

All: We will Rejoice and be glad in it.

Leader: Come, Let us worship.

Song of Praise

Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.

Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts,

as we forgive our debtors. Lead us not into temptation,

But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power,

and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Scripture Reading

John 14:15-21

“If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”

Song of Faith

Greatfulness

Let us give thanks to God our Father for all his gifts so freely bestowed upon us.

For the beauty and wonder of your creation, in earth and sky and sea.
We thank you, Lord. (What are you thankful for in the natural world this week?)

For all that is gracious in the lives of men and women, revealing the image of Christ,
We thank you, Lord. (Who has touched your life this week?)

For our daily food and drink, our homes and families, and our friends,
We thank you, Lord.  (What relationship are you particularly thankful for this week?)

For minds to think, and hearts to love, and hands to serve,
We thank you, Lord. (What opportunities have you had to show love this week?)

For health and strength to work, and leisure to rest and play,
We thank you, Lord. (What have you most enjoyed this week?)

For the brave and courageous, who are patient in suffering and faithful in adversity,
We thank you, Lord. (Who has served you this week?)

For all valiant seekers after truth, liberty, and justice,
We thank you, Lord. (What are you curious about this week?)

For the communion of saints, in all times and places,
We thank you, Lord. (What in/about your church are you thankful for this week?)

Above all, we give you thanks for the great mercies and promises given to us in Christ Jesus our Lord; to him be praise and glory, with you, O Father, and the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.

Giving as an act of worship

As God has given so generously to us, let us respond in generous contribution to the work and ministry of God's Kingdom, manifest in part at Towne View Baptist Church.

As you give, meditate on all the ways that God has invited us into ministry with Him.

Part of our worship is the giving of our tithes and offerings to the ministry of the church. To give online now CLICK HERE.

Pause

Discuss with your family, or ponder to yourself...

When so many of God's commands and expectations are social (how we treat others, demands for justice, calls for evangelism and service), how do we live out our obedience when we are physically distant?

How is this season changing the way you think about/conduct ministry?

Sermon

?

1Peter 3:13-22

Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do good? But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear their threats; do not be frightened.” But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. For it is better, if it is God’s will, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit. After being made alive, he went and made proclamation to the imprisoned spirits— to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water,  and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at God’s right hand—with angels, authorities and powers in submission to him.

Today's scripture reading calls for us to be prepared to "give an account for our hope."

-How do you do this with your words?

-How do you do this with your actions?

Song of Response

Benediction

Each week for the past 26 years, we have closed our worship times by reading this ancient prayer together. Benediction is a Latin word meaning "Good Word." Christian worship services traditionally end with the clergy speaking a "Good Word" of blessing over the congregation. At Towne View, we affirm the priesthood of all believers and as a part of that, we read this benediction together, ending our time of community worship by speaking a good word of blessing over each other.
